Hello,

If ever there were a company hurt by Microsoft policies it is Borland.
Attempting to operate within an arm's length of the software giant --
was testy, at best. This difficulty combined with the inevitable
mistakes -- was just about fatal.

Borland was a star of the mid-80s. Their No-Nonsense License was a
revelation. I used their C++ packages and was happy for the most part.
What I was unhappy about was their interface to the Microsoft
proprietarial material. MS abuses copyright law in this regard, I
believe. Of course, the primary culprits are the dumb-ass lawyers and
copyright laws. Ya know an OS isn't a poem.

Not wanting to 'get in bed' with Microsoft I stuck with Borland. Now,
that is over -- I'm forced to work with MS products. Not that I
believe their C++ is worth much. Win95, that's different, ... a great
piece of work.

Those of you unsympathetic to Borland should think twice. Stealing
critical employees is a bullying tactic -- one that should be governed
by anti-trust law. Why? It is difficult, if not impossible to compete
against a monopoly -- allowing them to recruit critical employees is
... almost the same as allowing monopolies to purchase competitors. It
goes against the PUBLIC INTEREST.

Borland had no chance. It was amazing it lasted as long as it did ...
especially since everyone was bending over backwards to get the
Microsoft expansion into high gear. Why? Economic growth -- yah, the
one that we take for granted now.

But lest I be misunderstood -- saving Borland is no longer in the
PUBLIC INTEREST, now they are just another company. But there was a
time ...

Finally I end with a salute ... its not much but ... to those at
Borland who labored on the behalf of many, including myself, ... YOU
GOT SCREWED!!!
